A compendium of unnamed emotions, built into an interactive digital experience.
Overview
The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows is a compendium of new words for emotions we all feel but haven't had language for. Qontour built the interactive digital platform – designing the site in Webflow, generating an AI-powered image library, and launching a feature that lets visitors submit their own sorrows and add new definitions to the dictionary.
Digital adaptation
We reimagined the physical book as an online experience – bringing its visual architecture and sensibility to the screen in ways that extend the original experience. The site gives fans (like us) one place to find everything – videos, reviews, interviews, and purchase links – instead of searching across a dozen platforms.

AI visual engine
Using ChatGPT and DALL-E 2, we generated a library of abstract images depicting the book's concepts – the dreamlike space where cerebral meets emotional. Careful prompt engineering produced a cohesive visual language across the entire library, maintaining a consistent tone while each image captures a different nuance.

Community expansion
We launched a Submit Your Sorrow feature that lets visitors share their own unnamed emotions. The system uses GPT-powered etymological generation to craft linguistically rooted terms for each submission – honoring the voice and character of the original book while opening it up to the audience it was written for.

That's what we do
You talk, we listen. Then we'll figure out together if it’s a fit.
In the meantime – we built a free site diagnostic we're really proud of. We already have your email so you won't have to give us something we don't already have
