StrongDM needed a way to explain a technically complex access-management platform without overwhelming buyers or oversimplifying the product. Qontour built a character-driven visual world and a strategic design layer that gives StrongDM a brand identity matching its platform sophistication.
A world that explains itself
StrongDM's platform manages how people and systems access critical infrastructure – not the easiest thing to draw on a whiteboard. We developed a narrative world using character-driven storytelling to illustrate how entities interact within their ecosystem. Each character personifies a technical concept – users, policies, resources, connections – translating abstract infrastructure into visual metaphors.
Evolution not revolution
StrongDM didn't need a rebrand. They needed their existing brand to work harder. We introduced a strategic design layer that evolved their visual identity without a full overhaul – leveraging existing typography, color, and visual foundations while opening space for differentiation.
Illustration at scale
Production speed matters when you're building an entire visual world. We collaborated with a digital illustrator, blending hand-crafted illustration with AI-generated backgrounds to create a hybrid workflow. This produces a distinctive style at scale – without the timelines that usually come with custom artwork.
